Trailproof & Friends in Bernadia Trail Area

The bicycle, originally created as a simple means of transportation, has undergone an evolution that has made it not only a sporting tool but also an opportunity for tourism. Today, more and more people choose to spend their vacations, even just for a weekend, in destinations that offer infrastructure and routes dedicated to their passion. If these places are also immersed in nature and offer quality food and wine experiences, success is guaranteed, as was the case last weekend in the Bernadia Trail Area.

On Saturday and Sunday, we had the pleasure of welcoming over 30 cyclists from Austria, who came to celebrate the closing of the annual camps organized by Trailproof, a tour operator from Klagenfurt with whom we collaborate. Daniel and Eva, the two guides and our friends, informed us in mid-summer of their intention to organize the event, leaving us with the task of creating a special offer for the occasion.

After checking the availability of accommodations and reserving spots at our trusted B&Bs, all that was left was to create a suitable program for our guests. In true Maglia Nera style, the two days were meant to combine mountain biking and wellness, trails and local cuisine, sweat and laughter, all, of course, in ‘our’ Bernadia Trail Area.

In short, we defined the sequence of trails to be covered and selected the restaurants where we would stop to refresh ourselves. Then, we just had to present the plan to Daniel and Eva for approval and wait for the bikers to arrive.

On Saturday, October 5th, at 10 a.m., at the “Al Posto Giusto” Bar – our usual meeting point – the weekend began. After gathering, we prepped the mountain bikes, followed by a quick snack and a brief explanation of the program. Then, we headed for the lower part of the Bernadia Trail Area (BTA): Useunt and Lugnesie. Given the large number of participants, we split the group in two, each led by some members of our team: one group headed for the rock garden of Useunt, while the other explored the smooth and flowing trails of Lugnesie. Later, the two groups swapped destinations.

Despite the rains of the previous days, the trails were in excellent condition – thanks in part to our ongoing care – and the cyclists’ smiles were proof of that. The groups quickly and smoothly reached the first stop in the late afternoon at the “Osteria di Ramandolo,” where a tasting of local wines and delicious cold cuts had been arranged.

The first day ended in style at the “Alle Valanghe” tavern, where the two groups, finally reunited, enjoyed a pleasant evening with abundant and tasty dishes, good wine, and the company of much of the Maglia Nera team.

On Sunday morning, the meeting was set for 9:30 a.m. at “Al Posto Giusto.” A bright sun, clear sky, and pleasantly warm weather for the season promised a fun-filled day. The plan was to explore the entire upper section of the Bernadia Trail Area, with a lunch break in Villanova delle Grotte.

The ascent was taken at a relaxed pace, with chatter and laughter, allowing us to enjoy the magnificent scenery along the route to Chialminis, the starting point of the first trail: Antro Vigant. In quick succession, with technical sections and smoother stretches, the 40 bikers (including almost all members of Maglia Nera) tackled the single track, which led them to admire another breathtaking view: the one from Villanova delle Grotte overlooking the Alte Valli del Torre and its imposing ridges.

The final transfer led the group to the highest point of the Bernadia Trail Area: Forte del Monte Bernadia. Before taking on the challenge of the Forte Alto and Forte Basso trails, we snapped the obligatory group photo. But first, we took a moment to marvel at the stunning panorama, stretching from the Julian Alps to the sea, framed by sparkling nature.

A quick descent to Villanova brought us to the “Terminal delle grotte,” where a buffet with some Friulian specialties awaited us, the perfect way to recover from the efforts of the day. Afterward, we faced the final challenge: descending into the valley along the spectacular sequence of trails Zaiama, Tirfor, and Brisicul, also known as Bernadia Gravity.

Once we reached the valley, the Brisicul Trail had once again captivated everyone with its charm and ability to entertain. On the way back to Nimis, our guests were enchanted by the view of the crystal-clear, emerald-green waters of the Cornappo stream.

At the end of the weekend, we said goodbye with big smiles and an invitation to meet again soon. It was a pleasure to accompany Daniel, Eva, and all the friends from Trailproof along the trails of the Bernadia Trail Area and see how much everyone enjoyed it!
